Extraction: The fruits produced by this tree resemble nuts in which we find a naturally fatty white almond. Once processed, it produces a yellowish to ivory paste: shea butter.
Characteristics: After refinement, the color of shea butter is off-white and almost odorless, but the applications remain the same. It is solid at room temperature and creamier.
Virtues and uses:
Shea butter has many restorative properties. It softens the skin and deeply hydrates it. It is thus a very good moisturizer which softens your skin. Rich in vitamins A, D, E, F, but also in latex and unsaponifiables
Used primarily for skin care, shea butter is known for its moisturizing and emollient properties. Used as a base for medicinal ointments, it has been claimed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, shea butter penetrates deep into the epidermis and leaves a smooth satin finish. It is also said to have natural antioxidant properties and natural cinnamic acid provides UV protection to the skin.
Used to make butters, lip balms, as a moisturizing agent in shaving soaps and creams and as a treatment for minor skin injuries and irritations.
This butter should be stored in a cool, dark place.
